The computer-based Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE) is designed for non-native English speakers looking to study abroad. Unlike other tests, you receive your results quicker, usually within 48 hours. Individuals can also use PTE for migration applications.
Another unique aspect of the PTE test is that it is mainly graded via Artificial Intelligence. No human element is involved; modules are predetermined and graded via AI. Since the PTE is 100% a computer-based test, students who practice with reliable resources and understand the standard procedure are likelier to ace the test as there is less chance of unpredictable questions.
There are three kinds of PTE tests. The PTE Academic test can be taken throughout the year but is only valid for two years. In contrast, the PTE General test is valid for a lifetime but can only be taken three times a year. The PTE Young Learners is designed for children from 6-13 years and is also valid for a lifetime.
The standard format for the PTE test includes three sections; speaking and writing, reading, and listening. The first section gives you a prompt text for which you must record your answer in 77 to 93 minutes. The reading section requires you to answer multiple choices and passage reading within 32-41 minutes. The questions in the listening section are in the form of audio and video clips that are only to be played once. You are then to answer questions from these clips within 45-57 minutes.
The total score that can be achieved in the test is 90, and while there is no passing score for PTE, a score of 50-63 would be considered competent. However, a score within the 65-75 range is preferred for the academic options.
